Twas his birthday yesterday and because I am a total fool, I hadn't booked the night off from Showcase, so betwixt Proper Job and Other Job, saw him for a grand total of 23 minutes, split between morning and evening.
I know. I should be fired.
However, I had made plans......
I very craftily managed to get cash to his team mates, who decorated his desk and bought him cards, and gifts and the biggest cookie in the world ever known to humankind*. He had great fun getting it all home on the bus.....
I had also managed to get him a complete set or original Power Rangers figures to go with his Zords he has been collecting. It had to be a mix of original series and movie figures, but its close enough.
Plus of course, we celebrated at the weekend because Mark, Lyanne & Andrew came down to visit! Hurrah! They have all recently been converted to the cause (ie are now Doctor Who fans) so they got the full tour. Plus we had a meal in the evening at Ba Orient (aka the location of the Lady Cassandra's birthday party, where Chip dies, in New earth) which was lovely and Mark paid for all of us!!!! The fool! We then had a go on the big wheel ..... but all so full of food its a miracle that we didn't spew when the men on it kept spinning our cage. I was grabbing the central wheel very hard to stop the spinning and to my own surprise, managed it! Its amazing the strength you can muster when fear is a factor.
Mark & Andrew also bought us a new phone for the house........

Yes, Pride was cancelled.
To be fair though, I saw photos of Cooper Field and it looked like a lake with odd bits of grass in it.
So all the acts were quickly snapped up by Pulse nightclub who were having their own party ... but of course you had to then fork out for another ticket to get into their area of Churchill Way. Unless you just stood by the Capitol Centre, Nat West or British Gas, where you actually had a better view than the paying punters anyway.
This did mean that I didn't have access to the schedule though, so had no idea when Jaki Graham was on, and didn't want to stand there all day watching the drag acts, waiting for her to appear ... so had to leave that dream unfulfilled for now.
We met up with a lot of our DW Forum chums, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday .... evidence of which is now on Facebook, natch.
Selected tales include ... watching a rugged youth being arrested outside the Minnellium Stadium from the safety of a first floor window in the pub .... guessing passers by personal history's with t'other Paul ..... a few nice trips down the bay for food and stuff ..... retiring to our place with Nick, Ally & Ian to take the piss out of cheesey music videos and Time and the Rani ..... and trying to keep out of the rain of course.
But considering I had last week off and did nothing .... I aint half bloody knackered!

Busy Doing Nothing

Ive been so tired for so long but just kept going.
So this week, I took a week off proper job (still had two shifts at other job, but I do still have a holiday to pay for!) and I have done ... absolutely fuck all. Its great.
Didn't leave the house for almost 4 days.
We did go to see Hellboy II on Sunday ... which was a bit meh ... its good, but nothing wonderful. Particularly if you have seen Blade II, Hellboy & Pans Labyrinth as its just a cross of the three really. Why its getting 4 and 5 star reviews everywhere is beyond me. The journos just seem to be well up for sucking Del Toro's cock at the moment just because they want access to the stuff for The Hobbit. Of which one film that is actually the book could be good .. but I am really not convinced by this other one they are going to make set betwixt Hobbit and Rings.
And its Cardiff pride this coming Saturday (not lat week as I told Rach .. although she did get a good shopping trip out of it apparently. I think I must have arranged it ages ago before I had found out exactly which date it was. Noted for next year that its Saturday September 5th!!) .. and its going to be fucking pissing down. If I didn't already have a ticket, not sure Id go. I despise being out in the cold and wet ... and if my clothes get wet I shall be leaving immediately before I start retching. I have no idea why wearing wet clothes or being touched when wet makes me spew ... it has to be a psychological thing though, right? But I have now read that Jaki Graham is playing there ... I was a huge fan of hers in the 80s .. Breaking Away is an album I am still trying to get my hands on as it was my fave after True Blue .. which gives you some idea of when that was! I never got to see her live ... so its fulfilling a 23 odd year ambition .. so I shall stand there up to my bollocks in mud, soaking wet and blowing chunks til she has been on .. then go home.
